Reed Spencer Cahoon, Jr.

April 1, 1925 ~ November 11, 2014

Reed Spencer Cahoon, Jr., 89, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2014, with his loving son at his side.

Spencer was born April 1, 1925 in Garfield, Utah, the oldest of six children born to Reed S. Cahoon, Sr. and Belva Amelia Darling Cahoon.

He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army as a Flight Officer and spent the remainder of his career at Hill Air Force Base as a mechanic and later in aircraft sales.

On February 8, 1945, Spencer married Mary Lou Rives in Manti, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Flying was Spencer’s passion. He flew single engine planes, bi-planes and the P40 and P51’s.

He loved to ski and play golf, as well as fishing. Spencer and Lou spent 17 years in Arizona but settled back in Ogden in 2003. She preceded him in death in 2011.

Spencer will be remembered for his sense of humor, his friendliness, occasional orneriness, and most of all for his devotion to his son. He was a jovial man and will be missed greatly.

He is survived by his son, Wayne (Rose) Cahoon, Clinton; six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Don and Roger. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Lou, one brother and two sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 17th at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road. The family will meet with friends Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
