Reed Parke Gunnell, 95, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away Friday, May 13, 2011 at his home in Syracuse, Utah.

He was born September 19, 1915 in Grace, Idaho, to Archibald Baxter Gunnell and Maude Dover Parke and was raised in Grace. His education included graduation from Grace High School and graduation with a Bachelor''s Degree in pharmacy from Idaho State University.

Reed married Bonnie Cox April 19, 1941 in Soda Springs, Idaho. Their vows were later solemnized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. They resided for over 60 years in the Davis County area having lived in Layton, Kaysville, Fruit Heights and Syracuse. They celebrated their 70th anniversary on April 19, 2011 and are truly eternal companions.

Reed worked at several pharmacies in Idaho, was a pharmacist in Afton, Wyoming, and also at Kowley Drug in Layton. He was involved in opening the Frost Drug in Kaysville and Layton Drug where he worked until his retirement in 1980.

Reed was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Upon his retirement, he performed temple ordinances several times a week. He also loved golf, and spent many happy hours on the local golf courses. He and Bonnie enjoyed their winter home in Mesa, Arizona where he could golf and attend to this temple worship. His other hobbies included flower gardening and caring for his little Pomeranian dogs that he deeply loved.

Reed is survived by his wife, Bonnie, his daughters, Gay (Roger) Scharp and Luanne Nave, 11 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and his sister-in-law, Sarah Jones Gunnell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Merrill (Beth) Gunnell, and Gerald (Sarah) Gunnell of Ogden, UT; Halden (Vera) Gunnell of Alexander, ID; and two sisters, Essie (Vance) McHan of Wendell, ID; and Elsa, who died in infancy.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

The family would like to thank the caregivers from Hearts for Hospice, especially Korie, and Lora for their weekly visits and Cage and granddaughter-in-law Cheryl Scharp for their compassionate service in his final hours.
