Refugia “Cuca” Maria Gomez

August 18, 1929 ~ September 11, 2017

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great and Great-great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend was embraced by the Light of God on September 11, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Heaven received our Guardian Angel on this day.

Born on August 18, 1929 in Devine, Texas, to Manuel Rizo and Francisca Martinez-Rizo.

Married Jose Gomez in 1943 and remained the love of each other’s lives until our beloved dad’s passing on January 31, 1986.

She is survived by her children: Benny (Mary), Ricky (Esmeralda), Rudy (Isabell), Freddie (Irma), Jesse (Rosemary), Bird (Chrisni), Rumaldo (Alicia), Mary (Celestino) Garza, Elizabeth (Joe) Flores, Selia (Gilbert) Bautista, and Paula (Lando) Montoya; sisters: Hela (Colorado) Pancha (Colorado); and brother: Manuel (Theresa) Texas; daughter-in-law, Bernice; 69 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Also survived by five generations of grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren..

Preceded in death by her husband Jose; sons: Joe and Johnny (Tracey); grandsons: Javier “Hele” Flores and Fernando Gomez Jr.; great-grandsons: Rumaldo Jr. and Kayden; sisters: Maria and Lupe; and brothers: Pete, Tony, Refugio “Cuco”, Juan, Jesse, and Jose.

A special thank you to those of you that rose to the task and provided loving care to our mother, we are all eternally grateful.

Thank you for all your goodness, your unending, unconditional love… for all your loving support, guidance and teachings, we were all so blessed mom to have you in our lives… we love you and we’ll miss you forever and ever, you will always be in our hearts. Rest in peace with our beloved dad and all our loved ones that have gone before us… until we are all together again. ~Your loving family

Friends may visit with family on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 6 to 7p.m. with a  Celebration of life from 7 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Ogden, Utah. Funeral mass with the Deacon will be held on Saturday, September 23 at 10 a.m. at the St. John Basco Church in Natalia, Texas. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at the church. Interment, St. Joseph Cemetery, Devine, Texas.
