Regina Moody Chadwick Baer

Regenia Moody Chadwick Baer, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away from natural causes Tuesday, December 18, 2012, in Bountiful, Utah, at the age of 99.

Jean was born in Thatcher, Arizona, to William A. Moody and Sarah Emily Blake, the last of seven children. During her teen years, the family moved to Berkeley, California. After graduating from high school, she attended college and later on, nursing school.

On June 1, 1934, she married Virgil Blaine Chadwick, and in December, 1935 the young couple traveled to Salt Lake City and were sealed in the temple.

During World War II, the family lived in Kansas, where Blaine worked for Boeing Aircraft. After the war, they moved to Seattle, Washington, bought a home, and raised six children.

In 1956, Blaine passed away at the young age of 46, leaving Regenia with four children still living at home. With the responsibility of providing for a family, Jean moved to Provo, Utah, where she spent the next four years attending Brigham Young University.

After graduating with a Master''s Degree from the College of Family Living, Jean took a job with the University of Wisconsin in Madison as a Family Life Specialist. Four years later, in 1966, she accepted a job offer from LDS Social Services and moved to Phoenix, Arizona. A year later the agency transferred her to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she spent many years helping to place babies with adoptive parents.

In 1972 the agency transferred Regenia to their Salt Lake City office, and four years later she was transferred once again, this time to the office in Ogden, Utah. She retired in 1978.

About that time she met a childhood sweetheart, Theodore (Ted) Baer, and the two were married on April 4, 1978. A few months later they were called to serve in Guatemala as LDS welfare services missionaries. Ted passed away soon after their return. Regenia went on to serve two more temple missions, one to the Washington, D.C. Temple and the second to the Atlanta, Georgia Temple. After returning from her second mission, she faithfully served as an ordinance worker for four years in the Salt Lake Temple.

Jean loved the gospel and took joy in her church work. Some of her callings included Relief Society president, a member of the Primary stake board, Gospel Doctrine teacher, and during her 80s she became "Mrs. Friendly" and told stories to the Primary children. Her special gift of teaching and caring for others endeared her to many.

She is survived by her six children: Patricia Thelin, Gloria Martinez (John), Carol Stewart, Douglas Chadwick (Elaine), Judy Olsen (Donald), and Sara Hacken, as well as 35 grandchildren, 134 great-grandchildren, and 42 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the Kimball Mill Ward, 650 South 200 East, Bountiful, Utah. Viewing will be 12:30 p.m.a€"1:30 p.m. Interment will take place at the Evergreen Washelli Memorial Park in Seattle, Washington, on Friday, December 28, 2012.
