Reta Maw Stewart
March 27, 1918 ~ November 10, 2014
On Monday, November 10, 2014, Reta Maw Stewart of West, Warren, Utah passed away peacefully of incidents due to age, surrounded by those who loved her.
Reta, who lived 96 years, was born March 27, 1918 in Ogden, Utah the daughter of Walter William Maw and Della Neal Maw. She graduated from Weber High School in 1936.
On December 17, 1936, she married the love of her life, Lynn William Stewart in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; they were married nearly 75 years. Except for 17 years during her childhood, that she lived in Plain City, Utah, she was a lifelong resident of Warren, Utah.
Reta was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in various capacities to include the Ward organist, President and Counselor of the M.I.A and a teacher in various capacities.
Reta worked as a mother, homemaker and helped run a dairy farm from her earliest years until 1969. She also worked at the Weber county School District as a cook for 28 years. She was always admired for being an extremely hard, reliable and committed worker at everything she did. She was always an example with her positive attitude and strong family values and commitment, her greatest legacy she passed on to her family.
Reta loved music, gardening and traveling. She could listen to any song once and play back on the piano—she was truly amazing in that regard. She loved the associations as Ward Organist for years. Over a period of about 12 years, she and Lynn were able to travel to all 50 states at least once which she has documented in thousands of pictures. She will always be remembered for the magnificent flower and vegetable gardens that she and Lynn nurtured for many years to the benefit of their family.
Reta is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Lawrence, her two sisters, Lila and Marguerite, and her loving daughters, Betty Lou Rodriguez and Mary Lynne Shumway, both of California. She is survived by four children, Gary (Camille), Jay (Pat), Ted, Kelly (Becky), nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
We will cherish the memories of our loving and devoted Mother and grandma. She is not replaceable and will be truly missed.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Washington Terrace Care and Rehabilitation Center and Caregiver Support Network Home Health for the good care and efforts made by both organizations.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. The family will meet with friends Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
