Rex Eatchel

Rex J. Eatchel, our beloved son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend passed away on February 11, 2015 with his family by his side. Rex was born on September 14, 1953 to Jim W. and Donna Morley Eatchel, the oldest of three children. He grew up in Kaysville, Utah and attended Davis Co. Schools. He always wanted to be a finish carpenter so he attended Salt Lake Community College rather than “waste his time and his parent’s money” attending a traditional college. He was a very talented carpenter and construction superintendent. He loved anything western and all sports. Rex was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post 8407 in Layton, Utah where he made many special friends.

He is survived by his mother Donna, his wife Doris, his son Jeremy (Sarah), granddaughter Madelyn of El Cajon, CA, his step-daughter Brenda (Brandon) Slater of Phoenix, AZ, and his brother and best friend Mark, with whom he shared a birthday (their birthday parties were legendary). He was always a “big brother” to his “little sister” Lisa (Kent) Watson, whom he felt obligated to “protect.” He is also survived by step-children Alfred Huff, Belinda Jean (Dave) Theobald, Cloyd (Sherrie) Huff, Evelyn Rael and Terrie (Dan) Low, many nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim, grandparents Sid and Pearl Morley, Wayne and Alice Eatchel, and Eldon and Agnes Martines.

A celebration of Rex’s life will be held at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. on February 17, 2015 at 9:30 a.m., followed by interment in Kaysville City Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the employees of Caregiver Hospice for the excellent care they gave Rex.
