Rex H. Hansen
KAYSVILLE – Rex H. Hansen, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at Orchard Cove Nursing Home in Bountiful, Utah from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease and a stroke. He was born in Salem, Idaho to Alice Virgin and Hans Hansen on January 12, 1924. He was married to Elaine Fecksted in Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1946. They had four children together. (Later divorced) He married Betty Shifflett Treadwell in 1972. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
Rex loved the outdoors. He was raised on a farm. He worked as a commercial contractor in Idaho and Utah. He was a lifetime scouter and received many scouting awards. He loved to fish, camp and golf.
Rex could fix ANYTHING and got rather creative in those efforts. Whatever he “fixed” was done to the point that it could withstand a category 5 hurricane. He loved to spend time in his shop and produced beautiful woodwork. His furniture, from cradles to china hutches, are family heirlooms. His other interests included gardening, bowling and traveling. Rex kept the grandkids and neighbor children entertained with his magic tricks and kept the adults entertained when his tricks didn’t work.
Rex wanted more than anything to be helpful. “Now what can I do to help you?” was his mantra, even with the effects of the disease that diminished him and through his quiet efforts while living at Orchard Cove.
As a World War II soldier, Rex served in the South Pacific and Japan. He paratrooped into a Japanese camp in the Philippines to release American POW’s and was one of 700 soldiers in Tokyo Bay to disarm guns allowing the USS Missouri to enter the bay for the signing of the treaty that officially ended the war.
Rex is survived by his wife, Betty and former spouse, Elaine; four children, Jackie Robertson, Carolyn Jones, Brad and Jed (Colleen); 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; seven step-children (Treadwell), Chuck, Bob (Gay), Steve, Sandy, Kim Stone (Bret), Jennifer Brooks (Richard), Chris (Julie); 16 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren.
