R. Harvey Lunceford

R. Harvey Lunceford, 93, of Ogden passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017.
He was born on August 2, 1924 to Wilhelm Joseph “Bill” and Vernett Perkins Lunceford. On August 22, 1943, he married Margaret Bates in Reno, Nevada. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Harvey graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem. He also studied electronics and refrigeration at the vocational school in Provo. He served as an Electrician in the U.S. Navy during WWII in both the European and South Pacific areas, and was honorably discharged.
After his military service, he was employed at Geneva Steel Company for about 10 years in the mold foundry. From 1960 until 1987 he was employed at Hill Air Force Base as an Electronic Technician for 17 years, and as an Equipment Specialist until he retired after 30 years of service.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in the Sunday School, Young Mens program, Elders Quorum, High Priest Group Leader, and Ward Executive Secretary.
Harvey enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Peggy, son-in-law Jaren Weatherston, sister Colleen, brother Edmond, and sister Billie.
He is survived by his children: Gail Weatherston, Ogden; Russell (Alicann), Phoenix, AZ; Craig (Helen), North Ogden; Alyn (Linda), Roy; Kevin (Colette), Phoenix, AZ; Jill Ann, Layton; 16 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
In May of 1990, Harvey married Barbara Mortensen and they lived in Orem. Barbara passed away on August 18, 2005. He is also survived by Barbara’s children: Bradley (Jerie), Lindon, UT; Sterling (Buralin), American Fork, UT; Todd (Rhonda), Lehi, UT; Shawna (Steve) Blanthorn, Spanish Fork, UT; and 13 grandchildren.
Harvey is also survived by two brothers and four sisters: Blain (Mertis), MS; Gerold (Ellen), Monticello, UT; Fay Muhlestine, Monticello, UT; Dorothy Wasmond, Meri See Valley, CA; Beth (Bill) Taylor, San Jose, CA; and Patricia (David) Reese, Provo, UT.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the LDS Humanitarian Aide for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
