Our hearts are broken with the passing of our husband and father, “Gato” Ricardo Rojas, 82, of Ogden.
He was born in Vina del Mar, Chile on December 16, 1940, to Julio Rojas H. and Juana Ercilia Olguin.
He married the love of his life, Luz de las Mercedes Verdejo Tobar, on November 22, 1962, in Vina del Mar.
In 1966 they moved to Spain, where they joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ricardo remained a faithful member throughout his life.
In 1968 they moved to Utah, ultimately settling in Ogden where he lived with his family until his passing.
Ricardo was a gentle, caring man who will be remembered for his many qualities, including being honorable, compassionate, loyal, and well-versed. He was our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Foremost, Ricardo was proud of his family, and of his many accomplishments, including immigrating to the United States of America, his successful studies at the University of Chile and later University of Utah, and working for 29 years for the State of Utah prior to retiring as a Job Service Adjudicator in 1999.
Ricardo is survived by his wife of sixty years, Luz Rojas, Ogden; daughters, Gabriela Rojas, Ogden; and Carolina (James) Ferrin, Clinton; grandchildren, Andrew (Jenna) Rojas, Clinton; Kyle Ferrin, Salt Lake City; and great-grandchildren, Jaydan, Parker, and Kaydance; by his sister, Sonia Laredogoitia, Palma de Mayorca, Spain; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins, both in Chile and in Spain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a half-brother and half-sister.
The family extends their appreciation and gratitude to the staff of McKay-Dee Hospital for the outstanding care he received there.
