Rich Francis Hadley

January 19, 1921 ~ November 14, 2014

Our loving father, Rich Francis Hadley, 93, of North Ogden passed away on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Kindred Wasatch Care Center surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on January 19, 1921 in North Ogden, a son of Samuel and Mary Diana Waldram Hadley.

On November 6, 1941 he married his eternal sweetheart, Eunice Judkins in Burley, Idaho.  Their marriage was solemnized on December 11, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They enjoyed nearly 73 years together.

After graduating from Weber High School, mom joined dad and they served together in the LDS East Central States Mission.  They also served as missionaries in the Baguio Philippine Mission, as service missionaries for the Ogden Deseret Industries, and ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple.  Dad also served as a missionary to the Jewish people in the Ogden area.

He loved and had a strong testimony of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was an active member.  He served in numerous capacities throughout his life. He especially loved teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to others and had a great knowledge of the scriptures.

Dad served in the United States Army as a mimeograph operator and was honorably discharged as a SGT.  He also served in the Headquarters Detachment, 4833 rd Service Command Unit, and Prisoner of War Camp where he performed duties as a Clerk Typist.

After his service in the Army, he worked at General Mills for 16 years as a packer.  During the last years at the mill, dad began wiring houses. He studied the electrical code book and started his own electrical business, Hadley Electric.  He owned and operated this business with his sons, then sold it to them prior to his LDS Mission in the Philippines.  Hadley Electric is still run by his sons, and their business partner, and grandchildren.

His greatest joy came from providing a comfortable and loving home for his family and serving his Heavenly Father.  Many admired his enduring love and tenderness towards our mother.  He loved gardening and had an immaculate yard.  He also enjoyed an occasional game of golf.  We all enjoyed his sense of humor including those who cared for him at Wasatch Care Center.

Dad and mom lived most of their lives in North Ogden.

Rich is survived by four daughters and two sons, Ruth Ann (Michael) Aylworth of West Jordan, Carolyn (John) Swallow of Syracuse, Janet (Ralph) Butler of North Ogden; Alan Rich (Sandy) Hadley of Pleasant View, Calvin Russell (Diana) Hadley of North Ogden, and Carma Jean (John) Morgan of West Jordan; 30 grandchildren, 83 great-grandchildren, and 23 great-great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are his brother, Ray Hadley (99) of Idaho Falls, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved.

He was preceded in death by his wife who passed away in August of this year, his parents, his sister, Rhea; brothers, Vern, Lloyd, and Glen Hadley; and grandchildren, Blake Arave, Roger Butler, and Jennifer Hulse.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden 3 rd Ward Chapel, 386 E. Elberta Dr., with Bishop Brett Hadley, a grandson, officiating.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
