Richard William “Pete” Bauer passed away peacefully on January 4th, 2021 from health complications and causes incident to age. He was born August 31st, 1933 in Eureka, Utah to Clarence and LaVern Bauer. Pete spent his childhood roaming the hills of Eureka with his only sibling Butch and cousin Ronald.

Pete played on the basketball team and played the trumpet in the band while attending Tintic High School, he graduated in 1951. He attended two years at BYU while living in Eureka. While in college, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country while stationed in Japan. He spent most of his active military time working with classified information.

Upon completion of his military service, Pete returned home to live with his parents in Salt Lake City, Utah where he enrolled in an electronics school. This is where he learned and became proficient in designing and assembling electronic circuit boards and other components.

On March 29th, 1958, he married the love of his life and his eternal sweetheart Diane. That same year the young couple moved to Layton, Utah to start a family, they were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. After moving to Layton, he began a successful career working 31 years at Hill Air Force Base, where he started out as an Electronic Technician and retired as a Branch Chief in 1989.

Pete was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved working with and serving others. He served faithfully as a Bishop, a member of the High Council and in the Stake Presidency. He also had a passion for Scouting and spent many years as a leader.

Pete loved the outdoors and spending time with his family. Business trips were combined with summer vacations taken to California, Illinois and all places in between. He enjoyed camping at the Property in the Uintas; as well as boating and fishing at Flaming Gorge. He was an avid Utah Jazz fan, it was not uncommon to hear him yelling at the TV from the other room.

Richard is survived by his wife Diane; his children Rick and (Ellen), Suzanne and (Gordon) Nance, Scott and (Stephanie), Ken and (Erica), Paul and (Michele), Michelle and (Lloyd) Richards, Ruth Ann and (Jason) Bell, Mark and (Erica); as well as 28 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and LaVern and his brother David “Butch”.

A special thanks to all of the physicians and medical professionals that cared for Pete over the past few years, including his loving wife and his daughter in law, Erica.

We’ll miss you Pete!

Private family services were held at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
