Richard Lyle Brough of Kaysville, Utah, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on August 9, 2023. Richard was born July 21, 1932 in Ogden, Utah. He was the second of 5 children. He spent his youth in Randolph, Utah working on the ranch with his beloved Uncle Wes Kearl. He graduated from South Rich High School and went on to graduate from Utah State University where he met the love of his life, Lola Mae Miles, in the bookstore. He then served a mission for the Church of Jesus of Latter-Day Saints in the North Western States mission. After his mission he was sealed to his sweetheart on December 1, 1955 in the Logan Utah temple. And then all the trouble began with their 7 children.
Richard started teaching Seminary in 1962 and taught for 22 years. During that time, he earned his Master’s Degree in Recreational Education from Brigham Young University. He briefly left the Church Education System to work with his brother Monte. In 1985, Richard and Lola were called to open the Jamaica, Kingston mission. He absolutely cherished those challenging 3 years and loved the missionaries and others he served with! After the mission Richard went back to work for and retired from the Church Education System. Teaching was his life’s passion!
Some favorite hobbies and memories involved basketball, horses, welding, ranching, camping, 4 wheeling, hunting, teaching, family history, dad/grandpa jokes and constant study of the Gospel. He was an amazing resource for gospel questions.
Richard was preceded in death by his sweetheart Lola, parents Richard and Gwendolyn, step father Lawrence Hanney, sister Kae Weston (Ivan), and brother Monte Brough. He is survived by his brothers Max Brough (Rosanna), Val Hanney, (Virginia), sister-in-law Lanette Brough, his children - Shane (Marcea), Robin, Tami (Brad), Wendy, Tina (Greg), Denalee (Niles), and Chad (Tina Marie). He leaves behind 31 grandchildren and 64 great grandchildren who will never forget Grandpa talking like Donald Duck.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the General Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
