Richard Leigh Chamberlain

1946 - 2021

Richard “Dick” Leigh Chamberlain, loving husband, father and grandfather, returned to his Heavenly Father on February 15, 2021.

Dick was born on July 14, 1946 to Howard Eugene and Edna Chamberlain, in Ogden, Utah.  He graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber State University receiving his bachelor’s degree.

Dick married Margaret Alice Condie on April 10, 1969.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple June 1977.

While at Weber State he belonged to the ROTC.  After graduation he was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant and started his active duty in the Army as military police.  He started his military service at Fort Carson, Colorado and then was deployed to Vietnam Where he served in the rank of Captain.  Dick served valiantly and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service.

When Dick returned from the Vietnam War, he began working at the Bank of Utah as a teller, eventually becoming a vice president.  He left the bank to briefly work for the State of Utah as a purchasing agent.  Dick was then hired by Salt Lake County as the Director of Contracts and Procurements where he worked for 26 years before retiring in 2011.

Dick was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he faithfully served in several callings throughout his years.  After retirement he served as a missionary at the Bishop’s Storehouse.  He also served in the Bountiful LDS Temple.  Dick was a very dedicated and hard worker, full of integrity and honesty.  He loved the Savior and had a great testimony.

Dick loved to be outside, especially in the mountains.  He loved to travel, no matter if it was camping or vacations.  Dick and Margaret traveled throughout the United States for work and pleasure.  Later in life, Dick and Margaret spend a lot of time in Star Valley, Wyoming and surrounding areas.   While there, he spent a good portion of his vacation on the golf course.  It was there he joined the Hole in One Club, his crowning achievement in golf.  For several years during retirement he and neighborhood friends would golf weekly, experiencing different courses.

Dick is survived by his lovely wife, Margaret.  They spent 51 happy years together and had 3 children: Kim (Neil) Swensen, Mark (Monica) Chamberlain and Chris (Marisa) Chamberlain.   Dick and Margaret have five grandchildren: Cody, Eden, Addison, Hudson and Devin. Dick is also survived by his twin brother Robert (Bob) Chamberlain, and Scott Chamberlain.

Dick’s family would like to thank the men and women at the George E Wahlen Veteran’s home for all the exceptional care he received.  In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be given to Primary Children’s Hospital.
