Richard Rhees Cragun

April 28, 1930 ~ April 5, 2017

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Richard Rhees Cragun passed away at home the morning of April 5, 2017 due to natural causes.

Richard was born on April 28, 1930 in Ogden, UT to Paul Budge and Flora Grace Rhees Cragun.  He was educated in the Weber County Schools and graduated from Weber High School in 1948.  He graduated from Weber College with an Associate Degree and served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas Louisiana Mission.  He served in the US Army’s 25th Infantry Division Military Police during the Korean War.

On July 6, 1956 he married his sweetheart, Ann Howell in the Logan LDS Temple.  They made their home in Pleasant View, UT where they raised their six children.  He was an active member of the LDS Church having served faithfully in any assignment given to him.  He and his wife served two missions together, The Ogden Inner City and the New Jersey Morristown.  They also served as ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple.

In his youth, he worked on his family’s fruit farm.  Later he was employed in the grocery business where he worked for both Safeway and Albertsons.  He retired from Weber County School District in 1995 after having worked 20 years in maintenance.

His family was his greatest joy! He enjoyed photography, documenting family stories and experiences on audio/video tape, and reading/coloring with his grandchildren.  He spent many hours in his garden and in caring for his fruit trees.  He had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed performing in several singing groups and choirs to include: high school, college, and church – he loved singing to his grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years and the following children, R Brad (Jolene), Pleasant View; Debra (Michael) Arnold, Sterling, AK; Michael (Shawna), Pleasant View; Charlotte (Toby) Scott, Pleasant View; Charisse (Mark) Bitton, Syracuse; and Clifford (Michelle), Syracuse; 26 grandchildren, and 9.5 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are his brother, John (Carolyn) and his sister-in-law, Mary Beth Cragun.    He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View 17th Ward Chapel, 900 West Pleasant View Dr.  Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
