Richard Rulon Davis (Senior), “Dick”

Our loving father, grandfather, and friend, Richard Rulon Davis (Senior), “Dick”, age 93, returned home to his beloved on May 10th, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born December 5th, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah to parents Thomas Charles and Ethel Dyer Davis.

He married Clarice Storer Bailey on May 18th, 1946; they were later sealed together in the Salt Lake City Temple in 1960. They shared 54 years together before she passed away in December 2000. After retirement they had many adventures traveling together.

Dad spent time in the Navy during World War II.  His service included being on a minesweeper in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.  After the war, he was employed by Utah Concrete Products, later to become Amcor; he worked there for 54 years (working up to Pipe Division Production Manager). In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and many woodworking projects. He was most well-known for his captivating intarsia woodwork.

He is survived by two of his children, Merlene (Brian) Messner and one son; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, June Hellstrom. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, son (Larry), grandson (Danny James Davidson), and 10 of his siblings.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, May 18th, at 2 p.m. in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, located at 10600 South 1950 East, Sandy. Friends and family may gather together from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. prior to services.

We would like to thank Lindquist Mortuary of Layton, and the kind doctors and nursing staff at VA hospital in SLC.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
