CLEARFIELD a€" Richard Merrill Furlong, 82, died Monday, April 15, 2013 at his home at Chancellor Gardens. He was born December 28, 1930 in Ogden to Merrill T. and Aleta Proctor Furlong.

Richard married Valora Jean Linderman on August 23, 1958, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. They are parents of Thomas R. Furlong (Celia), and Darryl B. Furlong (Angela).

Richard and Valora have nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Grandchildren: Josh, Cameron (deceased), Tyler, Trent, Jeaniece, Brayden, Preston, Colton and Bryson. Great-grandchildren: Peyton, Jayden, and Andrew.

Richard''s Siblings: Paul T. Furlong (Deceased), William L. Furlong (Juanita) of Logan, James P Furlong (Ronda) of South Weber, Joan Jones (Dick-Deceased) of Portland, Oregon, Aunt Merle Stowe of Panguitch and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard was a US Air Force Veteran serving in the Korean War. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many calling including a Stake Mission, Ward Clerk and Gospel Doctrine Teacher. He set a great example of kindness and was very selfless in his service to others. Dad was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road Layton, Utah. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Clearfield City Cemetery.
