Richard Thomas Furner

January 8, 1945 — July 25, 2022

Heaven gained another angel when our dear husband, father, Grumpa, Great Grumpa and friend, Richard Thomas Furner (Tom), passed away on Monday, July 25,2022. He was born on Jan 8, 1945, to Benjiman Thomas and Phyllis June Wolters Furner in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He graduated from Highland High School in Salt Lake in 1963. He was called to serve in the Sandwich Islands mission (Hawaii) from 1964-1966. He joined the Army Reserve in 1967 and not only fulfilled his 4-yr obligation but continued to serve until his retirement in 2006.

He attended Weber State University, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and History. He was introduced to the love of his life, Cheryl Mondfrans, while attending Weber State. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept 15, 1967.

In 1973 they purchased property in Uintah Highlands and built a home, and filled it with 4 beautiful children, 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and lots of neighbor "kids" with enough love for them all. He redid his landscape several times to accommodate baseball, football, a sand volleyball court and even a 40ft half pipe for the skateboarders in the family.

He spent many hours watching and supporting his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and looked forward to the annual "Grumpa's Kuzin Kamp". He loved skiing and couldn't wait to teach his kids and grandchildren as well. Tom and Cheryl enjoyed gardening and their garden was always a showcase. There was never a lack of noise, laughter, and love when Tom was around. Everyone always knew they were welcome.

The friendship and love that was shown by Tom to his neighbors and friends was infectious. When Tom's health started to decline in 2012, the focus shifted and countless neighbors could be seen visiting at his home, the hospital and care centers. The many hours that he spent creating a welcoming home have been repaid 100-fold. These memories will be cherished forever.

Tom Is survived by his loving wife Cheryl of 55 years, his children: Richard Todd (Dianne), Ryan Thomas (Jennifer), Kimberli (Shawn) Fochtman, and Kristali (Phillip) Child, 14 grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Tanner), Karsen(Ellie), Tyler(Vincey), Kobe(Yesica), Brysen(Morgan), Korbin, Averie, Rylan, Trevor, Kortlyn, Aydin, Kolton, Cooper, Kaidence and great grandchildren Tommy, Emma, Nash.

The family would like to thank Enhabit Healthcare & Hospice for the care and kindness given in his last days and to the many nurses, aides and doctors that helped Tom along the way.
