HARRISVILLE‒Richard David Gardiner, 89, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2023, at his home surrounded by his three daughters, Julie, Jalene, and Jill. He was born July 3, 1934, the son of Leon Willard and Emily Gattiker Gardiner in Ogden, Utah. Richard attended Ogden City Schools, graduating from Ogden High School in 1952 and attended Weber State College. He also served in the Utah National Guard for eight years.
Richard married Jean Wright on November 5, 1954. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on November 9, 1964. They were blessed with three daughters and raised their family in North Ogden. Richard was a member of the Harrisville Colonial Springs Ward.
Richard worked for Paramount Dairy for several years, which is where he met Jean. He then worked for Metz Baking Company as a route driver and retired in 1996 after 35 years of loyal service.
Richard and Jean loved to travel and golf. They enjoyed going on cruises and traveling in their trailer. During the winter months they spent time in Arizona with Jean’s brother Lynn and his wife Reta and his brother Bruce and his wife Wilma. They also spent many winters in Mesquite, Nevada. Richard continued to spend his winters in Mesquite after Jean’s passing. He enjoyed the warm weather and small town.
Dad was a very dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was devoted to his family and making sure they were always taken care of in every way. He and Mom provided us girls with a wonderful childhood and a loving home and so many wonderful memories of holidays and fun summer family vacations. Dad and Mom instilled in us the importance of family and traditions. As our family grew, we continued to celebrate the holidays in their home along with our many traditions and have always remained a close family.
Dad was always a jokester, and his sense of humor will be missed. He was an avid sports fan, of all sports, but had a special love for baseball.
Surviving are his three daughters, Julie (Doug) Craner, Jalene Brockbrader, and Jill (Ryan) Johnson; grandchildren, Leslie (Josh) Rhees, Richard Hunter, Jamie (Parker) Winchester, Jed Brockbrader, Morgan (Trent) Steinfeldt, Jed (Chelsea) Craner, Sadie Craner; 14 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Bruce A. Gardiner and John (Jerrilyn) Gardiner; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; son-in-law, Bruce M. Brockbrader; his parents; a sister, Marion (Blaine) Rice; and brothers, Dale (Verna Mae) Gardiner, Leon (Bliss) Gardiner, Robert Gardiner, and Howard Gardiner.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Sunny and Briana from Intermountain Hospice. Dad was also a regular at Javier’s and we would like to thank Guadalupe and Jenny for their years of loving service and always smiling and laughing at his jokes.
