Richard "Dick" Flint Hill

KAYSVILLE a€" Richard "Dick" Flint Hill left us quietly on Monday, December 19, 2011 without a big fuss as was his nature. He was 89 years young, having left us in his sleep far too soon. Dick was born on November 3, 1922 to Cora Pearl Flint Hill and Joseph Melvin Hill. After graduating from Davis High School he attended BYU before serving his country honorably with the 6th Marine Division during WWII in the Pacific theater. He returned home and began his career as a farmer, dairyman and cattle rancher. He married Pauline Adams in 1946. They had four children and were later divorced. He married Arlene Folsom in 1971.

Dick was an example of a true gentleman a good person and a hard worker who could never be outworked. He taught through his actions much more than through words. He was a real life cowboy who enjoyed his days in the Ogden Mounted Sheriff''s Posse and Utah Cutting Horse Association. He was a member of the LDS church. He farmed in Texas, Idaho and Utah, working into his ''80''s. He could grow anything and fix everything mechanical. We will all miss the vegetables from his garden, especially the tomatoes!

He loved to watch all sports, especially the home teams: the Darts, the Jazz, the Utes, Cougars, Wildcats, Aggies and Broncos. He enjoyed watching and participating in cutting horse competitions and he had fond memories of watching his brother Jack play football. He was a great golfer who was proud of hitting a hole in one. He loved traveling and learning and having fun. He teased and joked, and was an expert in the fine art of making a great deal. Above all else, he loved his family.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Ramona, Layton, Dale, Rex, LaRee, Jack and Carol Dean, his wives Pauline and Arlene and special friend Ardis. He is survived by his brother Joe Hill, his loving children: Jeff (Shannon) Hill, Jennifer (Kent) Whittaker, Tracy (Jean) Hill and Jerry (Tereena) Hill, 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was a great man, he was our hero. We miss the twinkle in his eyes and that mischievous grin, his sense of humor, his kindness and generosity, but most of all we miss him. We love you Dad and Grandpa.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
