Richard “Dick” Mathis
Life is good…especially when you are Close to Magnificent and Precious.
I came to this life June 28, 1933, in Provo, Utah and joined our Heavenly Father on June 14, 2013. Clarence Ross and Fay Elliott Mathis were my parents; Norma Jean Bird was my sister. My eternal companion and my best friend in life is Lila V. “Pete” Mathis. I am waiting for her so we may continue our journey together and do our Father’s work. Between us, we were blessed with two daughters, Pauline and Krista; one son, Ken; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
I graduated from Provo High School in 1951. I joined the United States Air Force in February 1952, retiring in 1979, with 27 ½ years of honorable service. My service spanned the Korean Conflict to the Vietnam War, flying as combat crew on B-29’s, B-66’s, and B-52’s. I was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Air Medal with 14 Oak Leaf Clusters and other air and campaign medals. I graduated from Weber State College in 1987. I volunteered with the American Red Cross for more than twenty years with Red Cross Disaster Services; responding to disasters, natural and man-made, including September 11th, 2001.
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and have held many positions in the LDS Church from branch president to home teacher. I am looking forward to the reunion with all those who have led the way. Don’t be sad for me, just be glad. There is a better place and I hope I am there. Life is Good. But the best is yet to come…
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 21, 2013, at 1 PM, at the Adamswood Ward LDS Church, 1589 East Gentile St, Layton, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Dick’s name.
Services are entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
