Richard Lemuel McDermott
SYRACUSE a" Richard Lemuel McDermott passed away Monday, August 12, 2007 at the home of his son after a long illness.
He was born June 8, 1921 to Lyle and Marguerite Mallory McDermott in Pocatello, Idaho.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
He married Josephine Emerald Harris in 1945 and they were the parents of three children. They were subsequently divorced and he married Carol Durham who preceded him in death.
He was a convert to the LDS Church and in his last years often expressed his testimony of the Book of Mormon. He attended the University of Utah and founded the Western Empire Auto Club which was subsequently sold to the Southern California Automobile Club. He spent the rest of his life in sales with the Grolier Corporation.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard E. and Carol McDermott of Syracuse, Utah; a daughter Jane Westlund of Gilbert, Arizona; and a son Donald McDermott of Taiwan. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and four brothers: Lyle McDermott of Hilton Head, SC; Gordon McDermott of Boise, ID; Kenneth McDermott of Eagle, ID; and Robert McDermott of Sacramento, CA.
His last words were of appreciation and adoration for his "angel daughter-in-law" Carol McDermott who so faithfully and lovingly took care of him during the last three years of his illness.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 18, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Canterbury Park LDS Ward, 1285 South 2500 West, Syracuse, Utah. Friends and family may call from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the chapel.
Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
