We are saddened to announce the passing of our father, Richard Charles Montag at the age of 82. Dad passed away on November 11, 2023, after battling a long illness with cancer. He fought a hard fight, but ultimately his earthly body surrendered to his illness.
Dad was born in Ogden, Utah on February 11, 1941 to Richard Paul and Velma Fowers Montag. As a child, he lived in Hooper until he married his first love, Joyce Barker, on April 4, 1963. They were sealed in the Logan, Utah Temple. After he was married, he moved with his new bride, to a home in Roy where, together, they raised six kids. After our mother passed away in 1991, he married a family friend, Myrna Offert. After their marriage ended, Dad was able to find love again, where he was married and sealed to Marcia Lee. Together they lived in his childhood home, where they remained, until recently. Throughout their marriage, Marcia showed our dad the unconditional love that he deserved.
Dad was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served many callings. He served a valiant mission in Seattle, Washington where he was able to baptize many new members into the church. It was on his mission where he said he gained his own testimony.
Dad was loved by so many people and met many friends along the way. He was admired for his artwork, in which he was an award-winning artist. He mastered many different mediums of art. Dad was able to pass along his talents to many people throughout the years, either through sharing his artwork or in teaching art classes.
We will miss his family prayers where he was able to show us his undying faith in our Heavenly Father. Dad led his family through his example of hard work and selfless love of others. Dad didn’t have a contentious bone in his body and had a gift of forgiveness.
He is survived by his wife Marcia Lee Montag, his children Richard (Trisha) Montag, Julie (Dirk) Nelson, Mitchell (Malia) Montag, Jenny Thompson, Kristy (Clint) Colvin, Jared (Tennelle) Montag. Sisters, Joanne (Lyle) Clayton, Carol (Steve) Everts and brothers Wayne (Patricia) Mathews, Jay (Brenda) Mathews. Between Richard and Marcia, they have many grandchildren and many more great-grandchildren.
Dad was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, his father Richard, his mother Velma and his father that raised him, Frances Mathews.
