Richard Alan Greenway (Rich) age 64 passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loving family on December 30th, 2024 after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a resident of Syracuse, Utah. Rich was born in the town of Wahiawa on the Island of Oahu (County and State Honolulu, Hawaii) on February 5th, 1960, to John Ramsey Greenway and Phyllis Ann Greenway (maiden name Gosling).
Rich graduated from Leavenworth High School in Leavenworth Kansas in 1978. After high school Rich attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence Kansas for one year. Next, he attended NEKA Vo-tech and received an associate degree in printing from Highland Community College in Atchison, KS. He married his wife Regina Karin Greenway July 10, 1982, in the historic old stone chapel on Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. He worked as a printer in downtown Leavenworth before he joined the US Air Force on February 20, 1982. He was in the Air Force for fifteen years. He first served as an Air Traffic Control Specialist at Spangdahlem AFB in Germany from April 1983 to June 1987. He served next as an Air Traffic Control Specialist at Tyndall AFB in Panama City, Florida from July 1987 to June 1998. Rich left the Air Force to start working as an Air Traffic Control Specialist with the 299 Range Control Squadron for the Department of Defense at Hill AFB in Utah on May of 1998, at the same time he joined the Utah Air National Guard to finish his military career. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant (E9). After retirement he took a job on Hill AFB as an Electronics Technician II for the Utah Test and Training Range-Link 16, aiding Military pilots in daily Air Combat Training, systems operations and ensuring training requirements were met from July 16, 2018, until March 29, 2024 when he became too ill on chemotherapy to continue working.
Rich was a wonderful man, a loving husband, father and a great friend. He was confident, always positive and optimistic. He enjoyed camping with his family and friends, he had a great sense of humor and was always the life of the party. He loved deep sea fishing when he lived in Florida, he enjoyed rebuilding old trucks, golfing, and computer gaming. In his free time he enjoyed hanging out in the backyard, gardening, and playing with our dogs Vinnie and Eddie. He enjoyed watching and listening to the many songbirds and hummingbirds visiting his yard. Rich was an excellent cook, he liked finding and cooking recipes from the internet and from fine cooking magazines. He was a jack of all trades, there was nothing he couldn’t fix, build or do. This world is a better place for having had him in it.
Rich once said that you never forget someone that you loved with all your heart, that they are only memories away whenever you need them, he was right. We are truly grateful for having had the privilege of sharing our lives with him. Rest in peace, forever remembered in the hearts of those that loved you.
