Richard “Rick” James Berry
October 18, 1951 ~ September 13, 2022
Our loving husband, father, and grandfather Richard “Rick” James Berry, 70, returned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at home after battling cancer. He was born in Ogden, Utah, October 18, 1951, the son of Richard Leon and Laura Johnson Berry. He married Barbara Jean Arnold November 28, 1987, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple January 2, 1999. They lived in North Ogden and spent 35 amazing years together. Rick was a man of faith, kindness, and love. He loved his savior, loved serving in various callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and dearly loved those he served with.
Rick grew up in North Ogden, UT, graduated from Weber High School in 1969, and completed his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology at St. Ambrose University in 1983. He loved his country and proudly served in the Air Force from February 1970 to October 1979. He continued to work, as a civilian and contractor, for the Department of the Army. Rick also worked as an instructor and then director of the Powder Mountain Ski School. He loved the outdoors, loved to teach, and loved his amazing co-workers and friends. Rick was a volunteer and had incredible experiences at the 2002 Olympics and Paralympics. Rick designed and built many creative things from a portable ski ramp to hot air balloons. He was always up for a challenge and never disappointed.
Rick loved to cycle and competed in several cycling races throughout the state. He loved to spend time at his “happy place”, Bear Lake, where he enjoyed memorable experiences with family and friends. Rick had a passion for cars, from his 1965 442 to his Model As. He was a member, and served as president, of the Beehive A’s Model A Club. He cherished his time working on cars with his brothers and sons. Many wonderful memories and lasting friends were made during car tours and shows.
Most of all, Rick loved his family - they were his first priority. He is survived by his sons, T.L. (Kaley) Bartlett, Kelly (Katie) Bartlett, and Hank Berry; six amazing grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Ty and Kirra Bartlett, Aubrey, Hailey, and Tyson Chartier, and Brooklyn Berry; brother, Craig (Jolene); sister, Laura Lee (Art) Dickamore; and brother, Mike. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Carter Bartlett.
