Richard David Shea, Sr.

Richard David Shea Sr. age 88, died October 17, 2007. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather and uncle. Born September 6, 1919 in Mason City, Nebraska to David C. and Mabel Armagost Shea. Married Nondus Budge, February 14, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was converted to the LDS Church and baptized January 5, 1957. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple March 23, 1959.

Dad was a man of faith, integrity, honor, love and service. He lived in Salt Lake City and Bountiful for most of his life.

Dad began his civil service career on August 11, 1941 at Hill AFB. He entered military service June 3, 1942 after graduating from AAF OCS. Served in WWII and in Japan during the Korean Conflict. He spent nearly 37 years in military service with 31 of those in the Utah Air National Guard where he was Chief of Supply & Services. Dad was very proud of his military service and retired June 30, 1978 with the rank of Lt Colonel.

He served as both an employee and a service missionary for LDS Welfare Services where he was instrumental in creating the Spearhead Disaster Relief Units at Bishop Storehouses nationwide.

Served in numerous positions in the Church from his baptism to his passing, including 3 times as a Bishop, a Counselor in the Salt Lake Stake Presidency and High Councilman. He loved to serve the Lord and found great joy in that service.

Survived by: daughter Patricia S. Casillas and husband Jorge, Salt Lake City. Daughter-in-law, Sandra Shea, Salt Lake City, son Michael B. Shea and wife Deena of Covington, WA. 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife Nondus, son Richard D. Shea Jr and brother William C. Shea.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday October, 25, 2007 at the Ensign 2nd Ward 135 N. A. Street, Salt Lake City. Friends may call Wednesday October 24 from 6-8pm at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and Thursday 9:45-10:45am at the church prior to the services.
