Richard Simmons Jr. (Ricky)

Richard Simmons Jr., 73 passed away Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010 he was a resident of Layton, Utah and former of Greenville Springs, LA.

Ricky was born August 11, 1936 in McComb, Mississippi the son of Richard McKenzey and Clara Carlea Boyd Simmons.

He graduated from Progress High School in 1954. He married Ruth Elizabeth Poole on February 23rd, 1957 in Greenville, South Carolina and was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity in the house of the Lord on April 28th, 1967. Ricky served his beloved country from 1955 to 1958 in the U.S.A.F. After which he began his lifetime career of retail management. He retired after opening the Wal-Mart store in Riverdale, Utah.

In retirement, he served 10 years as a missionary at Salt Lake Temple Square with his wife Ruthie. Ricky''s generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to his family and friends. He loved life and shared that joy with all that were honored to know him.

Surviving are his wife Ruth of Layton; son, Richard Alan (Cori) Simmons of Fruit Heights, daughter, Hope (Jeff) Hill of Holladay, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and sister, Sadie Mayeux of New Orleans, LA.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
