LAYTON - Our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Richard Craig Snow passed away at his home the morning of July 26, 2019. Craig was born August 6, 1931 to Frank Bruce Snow and Emma Seegmiller in Pine Valley, Utah – the second of their three sons.
Craig loved Pine Valley like no other place on earth. He helped his father with ranching there and had his schooling in St George, including Dixie Junior College prior to his mission. As a 19 year old, he faithfully served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to the California South mission. It was there that he first met a sister missionary named LaDean Sproul, whom he married after their release from mission service on August 7, 1953 in the St. George Temple. He then was drafted to serve in the Korean War, where he served in Okinawa, Japan for 18 months.
Craig later graduated from the Agricultural College in Logan, Utah with a degree in Animal Science. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Brigham Young University and moved his family to Layton, Utah to teach at the brand new Layton High School. After his career with the Davis School District he retired. Craig valued his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully fulfilled his callings including being a Bishop and Ogden Temple worker. He had a firm testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Savior.
Craig’s true life mission was the Boy Scouts of America. After serving as assistant scoutmaster when his oldest son started scouting (1970), he never stopped scouting for the rest of his life. One year he received a plaque from the staff at Camp Bartlett in Idaho noting that he had been to a week of summer camp there every year for thirty years straight, and a handful of those years he was there two separate weeks. He is a recipient of the Silver Beaver award and presented the Eagle Scout award to well over a thousand scouts in the Layton region. He also loved to encourage others with the training he received at Wood Badge.
Craig and LaDean had six children: Randy Bruce Snow (deceased), Terry Lynn (Rick) Sheffield, Richard Alan (Susan) Snow, Paula (Brad) Garrett, Steven Craig (LuAnn) Snow and Emma Diane (Michael) Farmer. They also have 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren with two on the way. Craig loved to keep up on the news of all of his grandchildren and could list the names of every great-grandchild. He looked forward to and really enjoyed his family gatherings.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents, wife and son as well as his two brothers Frank Snow and Ted Snow, a granddaughter Shantel Snow and a great-grandson Logan Drew Baer.
