Richard William Strong died peacefully on January 24th 2018. He was born September 18, 1932 to Harry Lyle Strong and Josie Ware.  He is the younger brother to his two siblings Jane and Jim.  Richard grew up in Kaysville where he made his lifelong friend Stephen Whitesides.

He grew up knowing how to work hard and he held various jobs as a youth including hauling garbage and working in the local cannery.  Upon graduating from Davis High he joined the Navy ROTC.  He graduated from the University of Utah in Chemistry and then went on to become an officer and pilot in the Navy. During his time in the Navy he traveled the world taking photographs everywhere he went.  Following his military service he returned to school and obtained a second degree from the U of U in electrical engineering.

His friend Stephen set him up on a blind date with the beautiful Nancy Vilate White.  They were married months later and began their journey and family.  Richard and Nancy have eight children, Kathryn Ann, Scott William, Bryan William, Jeffrey William, Susan Dian, Paul William, Daniel William and Andrew William.

Richard worked for the FAA, Thiokol (working on rockets), The University of Utah, and he retired from Utah State University after over 35 years.

Richard is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and has held various callings over the years, including his favorite as Executive Secretary for four bishoprics.

Richard tended to shy away from social gatherings but was always there to help a person in need with his vast knowledge and skills.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jim and his son Paul.  Richard leaves a legacy of 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Crestwood Ward, 1039 East Crestwood Road, Kaysville, Utah.  Friends may visit family from Saturday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
