Richard Duane Taylor
1933-2015
Richard Duane Taylor passed away on January 4, 2015. After a long, difficult, courageous and patient battle with cancer he is now at peace in the loving care of his Father in Heaven.
Richard is the son of Nephi and Druscilla Taylor of Farmington, Utah who preceded him in death, as did his brothers Nolan and John.
Richard graduated from Davis High School, and the University of Utah (where he held the conference long-jump record for 12 years) and received his Ph.D. from Wayne State University in Audiology and Speech Pathology.
He married his sweetheart Gail Glover in the Salt Lake Temple on August 18, 1953. Their loving marriage of 61 years has been an inspiration to all who know them. Together Richard and Gail raised six children, Drew (Leilani) Taylor of Arlington, Washington; David (Nancy) Taylor of Highland, Utah; Nolan (Rhonda) Taylor of North Salt Lake, Utah; Valerie (John) Beutler of Layton, Utah; Stephanie (Mark) Ewing of Perry, Utah; and Melodie (John) Mauldin of Bountiful, Utah. Richard and Gail love their six children, 22 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Richard exercised faith in Jesus Christ and that faith sustained him throughout his life and inspired others. He served faithfully in many leadership and other callings as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was a professor at Ohio State University and Utah State University for many years. He loves the outdoors and shared that love with others. He has a creative and curious mind, loves to learn and has a gift of expressing his thoughts in writing. His wry sense of humor endured to the end and will be missed.
Richard and Gail and their family would like to thank all of the caregivers who so lovingly cared for him during his long illness including children, grandchildren, his brother Lowell Taylor and his sister Jan Harvey, Dr. Vincent Hansen and his incredible staff, the loving and thoughtful members of the Kays Creek Ward, wonderful and watchful neighbors, Legacy Home Health and Hospice and many others whose thoughtful actions and prayers sustained him.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Kays Creek Ward, 2435 East Canyon Rim (1550 North), Layton, Utah. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Kays Creek Ward.
