Richard Bailey Waite (Dick) was born on February 16, 1945 in Logan, UT. He was raised in Kaysville, UT, Ottawa, Canada, and Dover, Delaware. He graduated from Davis High School, class of 1963. He was sealed to his beloved Ché, LouAnna Halls, on September 5, 1967, in the Salt Lake Temple.
He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree, in which time he also served in the United States Air Force ROTC. After graduation he attended USAF Pilot Training in Big Spring, Texas and absolutely loved to fly. After being injured during pilot training, he retired as a 1st Lieutenant and pursued careers in banking, finance, business management, and city administration.
Dick was huge fan of sports, especially baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals being his favorite professional team. He always enjoyed having a party on Super Bowl Sunday. He enjoyed talking sports with anyone who would banter with him, and he loved to declare his scorn for “Them Losin’ Cougars.”
He had an affinity for music, which he learned from both of his parents. The Beach Boys, The Beatles, ELO, and The Eagles were among his favorite Rock ‘N’ Roll bands. He also loved to sing solos and in choirs and could always be heard whistling as he wandered through Home Depot.
He loved serving in many different callings within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including a full-time mission in the Uruguay-Paraguay Mission, Priest’s Quorum Advisor, Teacher’s Quorum advisor, the Stake High Council, and Stake Executive Secretary. He felt the most affected by his calling as a Bishop of the Clearfield 15th Ward. He loved the members of the ward and cherished the tireless years he spent serving them.
Dick was extremely social, and anyone who met him was embraced with a big hug and befriended immediately. He was proud to be a member of Rotary Club International and enjoyed woodworking, electronics, home improvement projects, and working alongside his father and his sons.
Dick passed away on July 25, 2019.
