Richard Grix Welker, 78, died Tuesday, July 17, 2018 of natural causes in Las Vegas, NV. He was born May 22, 1940, in Ogden, UT, the son of Ella Cleone Welker and Victor Hazen Welker. He attended Ogden High School and graduated with the class of 1957.

Richard attended Weber College, where he received an AS in Journalism, the University of Utah, earning a BS in Pharmacy, and then the University of Texas at San Antonio, earning an MBA, with honors. Richard was married to Betty Raye Ballard on February 21, 1963, and they were the parents of two daughters, Nicolle and Julianne.

In 1964, Richard enlisted in the United States Air Force. As a young Lieutenant, he was the head of an Epidemiological Lab, which won the USAF Outstanding Unit Award under his leadership. Richard was nominated for Outstanding Aerospace Medical Division Junior Officer in both 1965 and 1966.

Richard’s first job was the position of vendor at the Ogden Red Sox stadium. After his Air Force service, he joined Squibb & Sons and worked in sales and upper management. In his early career, he was a pharmacist and eventually became the manager of several medical groups, including Desert Orthopedics and Premiere Health at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

He dearly loved his family and friends and served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved photography, running, water and snow skiing, and taking long walks with beloved dog, Baloo. He was an excellent baker and was known for his sweet treats. He remained very active until his last illness.

Above all else, Richard will be remembered for his huge heart and his loving spirit. He always made it his priority to help and serve everyone he encountered. He leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that is unparalleled.

Richard is survived by wife, Betty, daughter and son-in-law, Nicolle and Michael Nunley, daughter, Julianne Rexroat, and grandsons, Nicholas and Evan Nunley and Atticus Rexroat. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 28th at 3 p.m. in the LDS Hillpointe Building, 9011 Hillpointe Rd, in Las Vegas, NV. Viewing at 2 p.m.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Charleston Cemetery in Charleston, UT.
