Richard M Youngberg

Richard M Youngberg, 75, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014, surrounded by his family, from the devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis.  He is now free to walk and run again after spending the last 14 years in a wheelchair.  He always had a smile for everyone, and never complained about the progression of his disease.

Richard was born July 12, 1939 in Ogden, Utah to Merrill A. and Eva V. Adams Youngberg.  He graduated from Ogden High School in 1957.  He attended Utah State and Weber State graduating with a Bachelor Degree.  He attended BYU where he received a Master’s Degree.

He served a mission for the LDS Church in Stockholm Sweden from 1960 to 1962.  He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church callings including, Bishopric and Branch Presidency for the young adults.

He married Gerry D. Brown May 2, 1963 in the Logan Temple.  Together they raised six children, Cathy (Larry) Mower, Rick (Teresa) Youngberg, Michael (Shelli) Youngberg, Stacey (Alex) Loyola, Brent (Leslie) Youngberg, Christy (Rich) Edwards, and foster son Michael (Crystal) Kayl.  They have 20 grandchildren and their first great-grandchild due in January.

He worked for the Children’s Aid Society, State Industrial School, and Adult Probation and Parole.  He was a Lt. Col in the Air Force Reserve serving for 37 years.  He also worked for the Davis Mental Health Department.  He served on the Board of Directors for substance abuse, the Board of Trustees for the Davis Mental Health and Alcohol and Drug Center as well as many civic committees.

He organized the first scout troop for the disadvantaged youth for South Ogden Kiwanis Club, and was active in scouting earning the Francis Peak District Scouts, Award of Merit, and the Silver Beaver Award.  He was the scoutmaster of all of his sons.

He coached Church basketball, little league baseball, and little league soccer.  He loved hunting, fishing, skiing, water skiing, and anything sports, until his illness made it impossible to even move.  He loved being with his family and playing games with his grandchildren.  He went to all their soccer, football, basketball, and baseball games.  He cherished his wife, children and grandchildren.

Richard is survived by his wife, children, and two sisters, Kay Snow, and Gayle (Bob) Aardema.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville 4 ^th Ward, 866 E 200 N. Friends may visit family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
