Rick Lee Hancock
March 26, 1949 ~ April 2, 2018
Rick Lee Hancock “Ricky”, 69, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018 at McKay Dee Hospital, the result of a traumatic brain injury caused by a fall. He was born in Ogden, Utah, the son of Vern D. and Grace Roylance Hancock. He was the third of their four children. He attended Weber County Schools, graduating from Weber High School in 1967.
He was a member of the Army Reserves until the Vietnam War ended in 1975. Soon after, he met and married his wife, Robyn Taylor, and together they had four children. They had a long marriage, divorcing in 2015.
Alongside his parents and other family members, Rick helped to build Country Boy Dairy in North Ogden as a thriving dairy farm and business. He managed cattle, produced quality crops, and processed the best milk and ice cream in Weber County. He learned his strong work ethic from his father and mother and passed it down to his own children, who each had an opportunity to work at the dairy. The farm afforded him the chance to interact with and employ many local residents, many of which became life-long friends that he cherished.
After the closure of the dairy, he participated in local water service districts for the past 10 years, serving as a Trustee for the Boards of the Ogden River Water Users’ Association, the Weber-Box Elder Conservation District, and the North Ogden Irrigation Board. His final employment was with Ben Lomond Golf Course where he worked as a groundskeeper.
Rick was an avid golfer and many of his vacations and weekends were planned around rounds with friends, tournaments near and far, and visiting courses throughout the United States and abroad. His final vacation in the fall of 2017 included a visit to St. Andrews Golf Course in Scotland with his longtime friend, Dennis Gailey. Rick made friends easily and wherever he went, in part because of his persistent corny jokes, but mostly because of his acceptance of people from all walks of life.
Rick is survived by his children, Cassie (Doug) Brown, Matt Hancock, Cade (Jessica) Hancock, and Morgan Hancock; and 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Ron (Kathy) Hancock, Rama (Dean) Allred, and Ranel (Steve) Reed. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and granddaughter Aspen Rose.
A Celebration of Life for friends and family will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Ben Lomond Golf Course, 1800 N. Hwy 89, Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Interment, at Ben Lomond Cemetery at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the caring and compassionate staff of the ICU at McKay Dee Hospital.
