Rick Luckert

June 22, 1947 — March 3, 2019

Rick Lee Luckert, our husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully, at his home on Sunday, March 3, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was 71 years old. Rick was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on June 22, 1947 to Alton Lincoln Luckert and Erma Sorenson Luckert. He grew up in West Valley City and attended schools there. Rick was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During the Vietnam conflict, he was drafted into the army and honorably served his country during that time.

He married Elizabeth Owen in 1974, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1985. They were blessed with four wonderful children. He was so proud of all of them. In 1975, he went to work for Chevron Oil Company as an electrician and later worked up into the position of electrical engineer. During one of his assignments he was presented with Chevron's Presidential Award for his work on the Coker Jet Pump Project, which was the highest award given to company employees. He retired from Chevron in 2009 after nearly thirty-five years. Rick's hobbies included restoring old cars, especially Corvettes, fly-fishing, weight lifting, and spending time with his family. He had a gift for storytelling that will have us laughing for years. Rick had an abundance of energy and was always busy working on various projects. He was a gifted mechanic and could fix anything. He was a talented carpenter and craftsman and built our two Kaysville homes almost entirely on his own.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 44 years; his children, Gregory (Keli), Jean (Travis), Brett (Jessica), and Steven, his grandsons, Kaleb, Barrett, Isaac, Beckham, Simon, Ethan, Mason; and his sister, Shelly (Cesar).

We would like to express our profound gratitude for the many amazing family members, friends, and neighbors, who have shown such kindness to Rick and our family during Rick's illness. You are truly Heaven's finest ministering angels. We would also like to express our deepest thanks to Rocky Mountain Hospice and their care-givers for their kindness and compassion they showed during the time Rick was under their care.
