Ricky Y. Cleverly

September, 04 1950 – August, 18 2021

Born to Willard Franklin and Stella Laverna Cleverly. Rick grew up in Bountiful, Utah. He attended Bountiful High and Snow College.  Rick married Karen Roelings, bought a home in West Valley City, Utah, where he lived for close to 50 years.  Together they have a son Ricky Lee, and a daughter Tera Nicole. He worked for Salt Lake County for 35 years holding many positions in the maintenance department. Rick received many awards and accolades throughout his career.

As a family they loved camping and fishing. Big Rick also enjoyed playing baseball and gardening. He took great pride in his yard. He was well loved by his neighbors. Rick held great value in sentimental things. He had much appreciation for something handcrafted something with a story, a card written by a friend, or colored by a grandchild. He loved cars, coins, and collectables.  The only thing he loved more was his family. He always made sure his children and grandchildren had everything they needed and more. He slept on the floor in front of the Christmas tree every year with his daughter Tera when she was a child. He shared his love of cars and sports with his son Ricky. He bought new school clothes for his grandchildren at the start of every school year. His generosity fueled by his big heart and he always gave often to others even when struggling himself.

Big Rick is preceded in death by his parents Willard and Laverna Cleverly, brother Loy Cleverly, and daughter Tera Smith.

Survived by siblings: Kirk Cleverly (Susan), Paula Shields (Brad), Kim Cleverly (Shauna); son, Ricky Lee Cleverly, son-in-law, Ryan Smith; grandchildren Myriah Cleverly, and Talan Smith and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 W. under the direction of Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary.
