Ricky L. Thurgood

1950 ~ 2013

Our husband, father, son, brother, and friend Rick, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2013 from complications due to early on-set dementia. He was born August 16, 1950 in Ogden to Duane Harris and Lois Wilde Thurgood. He was raised in Syracuse and graduated from Clearfield High School. He attended Weber State College for one year.

Rick learned the value of hard work from his father. He was always working on a project, in the garden, or planning a remodel. Building was his passion. He loved his family deeply and had many friends. He also loved playing the trumpet and singing to Patsy Cline. He married Betsy Carter on September 5, 1981.

He is survived by his wife Betsy, daughter Dena, sons Gino (Amy), J.J. (Cami), and Vaden, granddaughters, Lyndi (Brock), Taylor, and Hazel, brothers Colin (Terri), Michael (Carol), Corey (Sue) and his mother Lois. He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be held Friday March 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
