Riley W. Goodfellow 1918-2007
BOUNTIFUL a" Riley Warner Goodfellow, 89, passed away Friday, July 6, 2007. after a lengthy illness. He was born April 14, 1918 in Bountiful, Utah. He was the eldest son of John R. and Mary Maude Warner Goodfellow.
Graduate of Davis High School and attended the University of Utah. He completed an LDS mission to Argentina and later enlisted in the United States Air Corp, attaining the rank of 2nd Lieutenant as a pilot.
Riley married Melba Lucille Ballard in 1943, and she passed away in 1969. In 1970, he married Myrna Joy Howard Lund. They have resided in Bountiful for the past 37 years. Riley and Myrna fulfilled an LDS mission to Argentina from 1979-80. Along with many church callings, he was awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver award for his many years of service to the Boy Scouts of America.
Riley was the first mailman to deliver mail to Bountiful residents and was appointed Postmaster in 1947. He was elected President of the Utah Association of Postmasters in 1956, serving Bountiful for 28 years.
In his younger years he help organize the first Jeep Posse in Bountiful. He was a member of the Good Sam/Beehive Roamers travel club and served as Wagon Master. His fondest memories include river trips with the Scouts and Aaronic Priesthood, hunting and fishing excursions with sons and old friends, and boating at Bear Lake with the family. Riley had an unyielding passion for life in spite of his many physical limitations.
He is survived by his loving wife, Myrna, and sons, Riley (Anna Mae) Goodfellow, Scott (Karen) Goodfellow, Brian (Klaudia) Goodfellow, Theril (Loni) Lund, and daughters, Nancy (Perry) Olsen, Julie (Victor) Day, and Pamela (Gordon) Evans, 25 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren.
