Rita M. Hyland

OGDEN - Rita M. Hyland passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2016 with her family by her side. She was born on November 3, 1922, the second of four children, in Superior, Wyoming to Austrian Tyrolean immigrants Floriano and Angelina Prevedel, then later moved to Kanesville, now West Haven, Utah in 1929 where she resided her entire life. She attended schools in Kanesville, Hooper, and graduated from Weber High School. She married Ross J. Hyland on June 28, 1947 in Ogden, Utah and raised two twin boys.
She was very active and enjoyed life. Her interests included bowling, dancing, traveling, ceramics, working in the yard and reading. Rita was employed for seven years as a clerk typist at the Defense Depot Ogden, Utah. Later worked as a paraprofessional at Roy Junior High School, and served The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the Kanesville Ward, now West Haven, as secretary for the girls mutual for many years. She was a member of the Washington Terrace Senior Citizens Center, and also a member of the Eagle’s Women’s Auxiliary. She was active in the local Trenti Club here in Ogden. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
She loved to get together with family and friends for any reason and enjoyed cooking for house guests. She will be deeply missed.
Rita is survived by her children, Greg F. Hyland of Clinton, and Gary J. (Alauna) Hyland of Pleasant Grove; by her four grandchildren, Christina M. Hyland, Raelle (Antonio) Alvarez, Jeremy (Natalie) Hyland, and Ryan (Kim) Hyland; and three great-grandchildren, Deandre, Grant, and Carson; sisters, Flora Sevy; and brother, Dennie Prevedel.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the caring staff of South Ogden Post Acute Facility, Hospice of Utah, and her untiring caregiver, Linda Wall.
