Robert “Bob” E. Bartruff
NORTH OGDEN – Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother, Robert “Bob” E. Bartruff, 59, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2007 due to heart complications at a place he loved, St. George, Utah.
Bob was born October 7, 1948 in Wilmington, Ohio, the son of Amer Dean and Evelyn L. Gray. He lived and attended school in Idaho Falls, Idaho moving to Ogden in 1961 where he graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1966. He attended Weber State College on a baseball scholarship. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970, where he was awarded several medals, including the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He remained in the Army Reserves retiring after 31 years of service.
Bob married Karen Saunders on August 20, 1970, and together they had four children. They were later divorced. He married his best friend, Teri Wayment, on September 1, 1984. Together they enjoyed 23 wonderful years.
He worked for the Defense Logistics Agency for 34 years, retiring in 2003.
Bob was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was a patriot who loved his God, his country, his family, and he especially loved being a Grandpa. He loved to golf, mostly enjoying the companionship of his golfing friends. He purchased his first Harley Davidson motorcycle in 2003 and loved to ride. In the Spring of 2006, he rode on the “Run for the Wall” to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC in remembrance of the POW-MIA. He was a proud member of the Patriot Guard.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Teri, daughter Amy (Nate) Hatch, sons Laynce (Brooke), Trent (Aleece), and Brett Bartruff; Jodi (Jim) Mikesell, Kevin (Donnell) Jones, and Ryan (Cydnee) Jones; 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one on the way.
Also surviving are his step-father, Robert Hiett, sisters, Barbara (Norm) Shaw and Nancy (Mike) Fuls; brothers-in-law, Scott (Jeanne) Wayment, Kim (Ilene) Wayment, KC (Judy) Norseth and 14 nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father Amer; his mother Evelyn Hiett; mother-in-law Mary Wayment Anderson, and his little angel, grandson Cy Robert Bartruff.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
