JOHN ROBERT BENNETT
1942 - 2020
John Robert Bennett (Bob) was born in Ogden, Utah, on August 15, 1942, to John Kenneth and Velda Burnam Bennett. He passed on December 30, 2020.
Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Ogden High School and then went on to earn bachelor’s degrees in Math and Chemistry from Weber State College. Bob worked at Bennett’s Jewelry with his dad while growing up. He began engraving at age 7. He also worked for Japanese Gardner’s Union while in high school and college to help pay for his schooling. He went on to earn his graduate degree in Gemology starting in Tempe, AZ, and finishing in Los Angeles, CA. In 1973 he moved back home when his dad became ill and eventually became manager and then owner and operator of Bennett’s Jewelry and Trophies in Ogden.
Bob married Noleen Tanner on July 5, 1975. They were together for 45 years. Noleen cared for Bob throughout his illness with dementia so he could comfortably pass at home with the one he trusted and loved.
Bob was preceded in death by both his parents and two brothers, Ronald Lewis Bennett and Lynn Richard (Caroline) Bennett . He is survived by Noleen Tanner, his sister Jean Hadfield, and sister-in-law Caroline Bennett, along with many nieces and nephews.
