Robert Scott Benton
Robert Scott Benton, father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday January 7, 2014 due to injuries sustained in a terrible accident. He was 67.
He was born on September 24, 1946 to Robert and Katherine Scott Benton in Ogden, Utah, the fourth of six children, and grew up in West Layton, UT. He attended Davis High School in Kaysville, where he played football and baseball and graduated in 1964. He also served in the United States Army. He became a business owner shortly after returning from military service and spent over 30 years operating a successful drywall construction business. He was known for his honesty, integrity, and kindness in both his personal and professional life.
He married Janice Harriman on September 13, 1974. Their marriage was solemnized in Salt Lake City LDS Temple on December 23, 1994. She passed away in November 1998.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and his first thought was always for others. He was a great example of selflessness and lived to help his family, never thinking of himself. There never was a harder worker and he could always be counted on to follow through on whatever he promised. He served faithfully in many callings in the church and was a particularly good teacher and scriptorian.
He loved fishing, especially on the small rivers of southwestern Wyoming. He loved to catch fish, bu t got even more joy out of watching his sons and nephews reel one in. In his younger days, after work he would drive all the way from Layton, Utah to Star Valley, Wyoming to go fishing and drive back home the same night to get to work the next morning. He spent many memorable days with his sons, brothers, and nephews enjoying the outdoors and a good debate about college football.
He was no stranger to grief in his life and he is now resting from his earthly cares, joyfully reunited with his wife, parents, and others who had passed on before.
Robert is survived by his children, JoeRob (Jennie) Benton of Layton; Kyle (Denae) Benton of Kaysville; and Brandi (Bret) Hamblin of Roy; siblings, Patrick Benton of South Weber; Joyce (Vern) Hill of Hooper; Judy (Brent) Cook of Syracuse; and Joe (Sheryl) Benton of Layton; nine grandchildren: Keri, Colby, Aleksa, Anna, Jaci, Gabrielle, David, Jayden, and Katy.
