Robert D. Black, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011. His passing was unexpected, although he had been sick for some time. He will be missed by all.
Robert was born April 23, 1933 in Deseret, Utah to Leslie and Arvilla Teeples Black. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1951 and subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served as a diesel mechanic during the Korean conflict. After being honorably discharged, he returned home and subsequently attended Weber State College and BYU, graduating with a degree in accounting.
Robert started his career at Federal Employees Credit Union as CFO where he met the love of his life, Virgie Little. After they were married, he briefly worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in California and then accepted a job at Hill AFB as an internal Auditor for the Air Force Audit Agency. He worked for the Air Force Audit Agency for 25+ years retiring in 1990. He earned a commendation from President Reagan for his work on the early F-16 program. He also operated a successful home tax business for many years.
On July 6, 1960, Robert married Virgie Little in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they raised three children, Bill (Jean) Black, Teri Black and Michael Black. He was a longtime resident of Roy, Utah. He had five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who simply adored yeye and great poppa.
He was preceded in death by Virgie, his parents, and one sister, Elaine DeGrood.
Surviving is a sister, Donna Rapposelli of Alameda, California.
Robert was an active member and High Priest of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, He had been a volunteer at Midland Elementary in Roy for 14 years helping children with reading and math, and earned a Silver Bowl award for his volunteer work. His presence at the school will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7th at 11 a.m. at the Roy 9th Ward Chapel, 2175 West 4250 South.
The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Roy City Cemetery.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Rocky Mountain Skilled Nursing in Clearfield for the care they provided this last month.
