Robert "Bob" Lee Rabenstein

May 22, 1938 — January 4, 2025

Robert “Bob” Lee Rabenstein, 86, died surrounded by his loving family on January 4, 2025.

Bob was born May 22, 1938, to William Frances Rabenstein and Madge Minnie Voice in National Utah on the family kitchen table.

Shortly after, the family moved to Layton, Utah, where he was raised and educated in Davis County, graduating from Davis High School in 1956.

Bob began his career as a civilian machinist at Hill Air Force Base before working for the US Government as a Quality Assurance Inspector for the Department of Defense. He worked in this job until his retirement in 2005. While working for the Department of Defense, he received countless awards for his exceptional service.

On May 3rd, 1955, Bob had his first date with the love of his life, Ruthe Ann Muir, whom he later married on June 5th, 1959, at the Oakridge Country Club in Farmington, Utah. They happily remained together until his passing.

Together, Bob and Ruthe Ann raised 4 children in their home in Layton, Utah. Bob and Ruthe Ann recently celebrated 65 years of marital bliss.

Bob enjoyed many things, such as football, woodworking, spaghetti westerns, holidays, and spending time with his family. Bob loved listening to 50’s rock n roll, old country western music, and dancing with Ruthe Ann.

Bob took great pride in his home and his yard, which is evident, especially during Halloween, the 4th of July, and Christmas. It wasn’t unusual to find notes of praise and appreciation in the mailbox from the community for his decorations. Layton City awarded Bob a 100th-year commemorative coin for his outstanding Christmas decorations in 2020.

Bob was an active member of the Layton Jay Cees, where he earned the Man of the Year award. He organized and ran easter egg hunts, parades, and Riata Days festivities through the 1960s and ’70s. You may have even seen him driving through the streets of Layton City, ringing the legendary Golden Bell to kick off the Riata Days celebrations.

Bob was instrumental in forming the Wasatch Front Little League football program, where he held the Vice President position. Bob coached little league football for many years, winning many championships and proudly watching several of his players make it to the big stage.

In 1966 Bob was awarded the outstanding achievement award in the youth and sports field.

Bob was a fantastic father. He never missed a softball, baseball, or football game. You could always spot Bob at every dance recital, performance, and competition. Bob carried out this tradition supporting his grandchildren in their extracurricular activities.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Ruthe Ann, and their 4 children: Bobbi (Billy) Huneycutt, Mitch Rabenstein, Neil Rabenstein, and Heidi (Bryan) Anderton. 7 Grandchildren, Amber Sandberg, Ryan Albert, Travis Moody, MaKylie Anderton, Evan Anderton, Emory Anderton, and Kasen Anderton. 5 Great Grand Children, George Sandberg, Athena Moody, Kylo Albert, Rhea Moody, and Nova Moody. Two brothers-in-law, Clyde Muir, Ralph (Wanda) Muir, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Barbara (Dwight) Petty and Willa (Alan) Jacobson, and brother Jack Rabenstein.
