Robert Bodily
September 30, 1918 ~ August 2, 2017
Robert Bodily passed from this life on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at the age of 98. He died peacefully in his sleep in the arms of his sweetheart. He met the love of his life, Lucille Poll, at a young age and they were married October 15, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They enjoyed 76 years together as man and wife and were considered “joined at the hip”. Even at this age they were always holding hands.
Robert was born September 30, 1918 in Syracuse, Utah, a son of Robert Edward and Emma Elizabeth Knighton Bodily. He was the seventh of eleven children. He later lived in Ogden, Roy and North Ogden, Utah.
He was raised during the Great Depression and spent much of his growing years working on the family’s 40 acre farm and learning to make do with what he had. He developed a love for music as a child and was blessed with a beautiful voice. He taught himself to play guitar and spent his life blessing others with his musical talent.
Robert was World War II veteran and served in the Pacific Theater for three years in New Guinea, Philippine Islands and Japan. He was a gunner on the 105 Howitzer. He had a great love for his country.
Robert felt great love for people and was natural counselor for the struggling, especially his family. Nearly everyone he met became a beloved friend. He was a tower of strength to his family.
He was a valiant servant of the Lord and was a member of the LDS Church. He served there in many positions including young men and scout leader, bishopric, several local missions, Stake beekeeper and served with Lucille as Director of the London Temple Visitor Center. He was a dedicated temple worker and loved Family History work.
Robert loved camping, fishing, and hunting in his younger years. He was a beekeeper. He loved to garden and grow fruit to share with friends and neighbors. Work became his middle name.
Surviving are his wife; daughters, Colleen (David) Clay, North Ogden; Julianne (Paul) Gibby, North Ogden; and son, Robert Paul (Leisa) Bodily, Hooper; 14 grandchildren 38 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. This family will miss their patriarch profoundly.
