Robert K. Byrd
OGDEN – Robert Kay Byrd, 61, died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Ogden Regional Medical Center.
He was born December 20, 1946 in Pocatello, Idaho, a son of James F. and Jennie Barbour Byrd. He attended Washington Junior High in Ogden, Utah. He also attended Ben Lomond High School before enlisting with the U.S. Army where he received his G.E.D. His military service, from 1963 to 1974, also included two tours of duty in the Vietnam Conflict.
In 1968, Robert married Carolyn J. Heath in Dillon, North Carolina. They were later divorced.
Robert was non-denominational as far as specific churches, but considered himself a Christian.
He worked in the automobile industry as a mechanic for many years.
Robert enjoyed fishing, working on his cars and putting together models of all kinds.
Surviving are his daughter, Nancy Leigh Byrd, New York; stepson, Patrick Heath, Willard, UT; stepdaughter, Tammy Ngo, North Ogden, UT; one grandchild, Le Koomlek, and four great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his mother, Jennie B. Eddy, Ogden, UT; two brothers, James F. Byrd, Virginia Beach, VA; Dale C. Eddy, Ogden, UT; and two sisters, Karen K. James, Virginia Beach, VA; and Shanna M. Vincent, Brownville, KY.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, James F. Byrd, brother, Dennis P. Eddy, and grandparents, Thomas Jefferson Barbour and Mary E. Barbour.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded.
