Robert Thurgood Call
LAYTON - Robert Thurgood Call, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, December 18, 2015 surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 11, 1930 in Bountiful, Utah to Milton H. and Ethel Thurgood Call. He was the 2nd of 4 children. He married Shirley Mangum on January 8, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He lived in West Layton all his life. He had a great love for his wife, children and grandchildren.
He was a member of the Feathering Sands Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings over the years, but he especially loved working in the Ogden Temple and doing Missionary work. At his death he was serving as a Home Teacher. He served in the Northern States Mission and he and his wife served a mission to the Kenya Nairobi Mission. He was a farmer and a cattleman, serving on the Board of Directors of the Davis and Weber Canal Company, Soil Conservation Board and Weber Water Board. He served in the Army in the Korean War, stationed in Alaska.
Surviving are his children: Jared (Janett) Call of Tremonton; Laurel (Craig) Anderson of Layton; Val (Valerie) Call of Bear River; Jill (Bradford) Johnson of Layton; 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, brother-in-laws, Bob Hall, Kerry Mangum, Dennis Wilson and sister-in-law, Marion Mangum.
Preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Dean Call, sisters LaRue DeWitt and Vernetta Wilson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 11a.m. at the Layton Legacy Stake Center, 752 No. 3700 W., Layton. Friends may visit Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church Missionary Fund.
