Robert Jay Chapman
CENTERVILLE a" Robert Jay Chapman, 65, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 21, 2011 surrounded by his children and many loved ones. This completes his pursuit of the perfect fishing hole "somewhere in the clouds."
He was born on September 28, 1945 in Ogden, Utah the son of Raymond and Lola Smedley Chapman.
Robert attended Syracuse Elementary, North Davis Jr. High and graduated from Clearfield High School in 1963. In 1965 - 1967 he served an LDS Mission in the Northern Argentina.
Robert married Teresa Kay Jackson on October 13, 1967 in Ogden, Utah. They had six children and also cared for a handicapped Uncle Lynn Smedley. They were later divorced.
From 1967 - 1974 he served in the Utah National Guard as a Spanish translator trained in interrogating prisoners of war. His life employment was in sales of furniture and electronics. He also helped start his son''s rock landscaping business.
His hobbies were fishing, hunting, camping, baseball, telling stories, feeding the ducks and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his children: Chris Chapman, Michelle (Chad) Parks, Andrea Platt, Cory (Kara) Chapman, Denice Roberts, 13 grandchildren and his siblings, Richard, Steve, Patti, Jeff, Tracy, Bryce and Kelly.
Preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jennifer Chapman his "sweet little twinkle toes," brother Gary Chapman and Uncle Lynn Smedley.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery next to his daughter Jennifer.
Farewell for now our dear friend, we shall go fishing again soon.
