Robert I. Cottingham

Robert I. Cottingham (Bob) passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Thursday, February 23, 2017. He was born on May 20, 1936 in Mountain View, MO, to Robert H. and Erma Cottingham.

Bob lived in Rolla, MO, graduating high school as a star athlete and student body president. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in Forestry. He moved to Utah to work for the U.S. Forest Service, and shortly thereafter was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged, and returned to Utah where he spent the next 38 years working for the U.S. forest service, from which he retired.

He was a devout Christian and an Elder in the First Christian Church.

Bob met the love of his life and best friend, Roberta Olsen, and they were married December 12, 1964. They had five children together. He spent the last years of his life helping to raise his grandson, Sam, and going to the moon and back for his granddaughter, Allysa. He enjoyed taking his family camping to the Uintahs, and holding family milkshake nights. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family.

He was an avid outdoorsman, a member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited, and Delta Waterfowl.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta, children: Michelle (Dick) Morrin, Scott Rollins, Robert J. (Wendy) Cottingham, and Dana Cottingham; grandchildren: Robin, Robert K., Russell, Jackie, James, Stuart, Cooper, Kelsee, Carlee, Allysa, and Sam, and six great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by a son, Eric Cottingham.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. Lindquist North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family that morning from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
