Robert Keith Cunnington, 62, of Hayward, CA, passed away suddenly on January 24th, 2025.
Robert, lovingly known as ‘Bob’ was born on March 22, 1962 in Duarte, CA to Judy Kay Johnson and Herbert Chloy Cunnington.
Bob was survived by his mother Judy Johnson, brother Joseph Cunnington (Maria), his two nieces Jodi Cowan (Matthew), Jessica Cunnington, and his great nieces and nephew Grace, Hank, and Jane.
He was preceded in death by his father Herbert Chloy Cunnington, paternal grandparents Joseph Cunnington and Matilda Jones Cunnington, and maternal grandparents Maurice Calhoon and Ina Calhoon.
Bob’s life passion was motorcycles, he rode them, raced them, and worked on them his entire life. He began riding motorcycles at age 9, and started racing flat track motorcycles at age 11. Bob became a professional motorcycle racer at the age of 16. He would continue to race flat track all throughout the United States as a long-time member of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), belonging to District 36 in Northern California. During his motorcycle racing career, Bob would receive many accolades. Most notably he won the Junior Invitational at the San Jose Mile (1980), followed by 2nd place in the 250 GP class at Laguna Seca (1981), 3rd place in the Twin Sports Class at Sears Point, and 1st place at the West Coast Dirt Track Championships in 2000 and 2001. Lastly in 2024, Bob completed the 24-hour road race near Mt. Shasta. Throughout his motorcycle racing career, Bob wore the following numbers: 87y, 28, and 1. When not racing, Bob worked as a motorcycle mechanic for 30 years at RC Cycles located in Hayward, CA.
A viewing will take place Monday, February 3rd , 2025 at 9:30AM MST at Lindquist’s Mortuary in Roy, UT. A funeral service will follow at 11:00AM MST. A burial service will take place directly after at the Hooper City Cemetery in Hooper, UT. Flowers can be sent to Lindquist’s in Roy, UT
