Robert Shaun Dalton

Robert Shaun Dalton died peacefully watching Battleship. His physical health and well-being declined much during his final months. Last month Robert’s book “An Angel, a Dream, and an Awakening” was published as an e-book on Amazon.
He was born June 8, 1965 in Provo, Utah the son of Donald Michael and Kathie Lee Johnson Dalton.
Robert graduated from Layton High School. While there he participated in choir “Laytones,” bridge building contest, swim team, track and field team, concert band as tuba player, and much more. Robert during his Senior Year at Layton High School was involved in many school activities: Member of High School House and Senate, Swim Team Region Champs, Track Team, Cross Country Team, Lettermen Club, Math Club, School Lunch Helper and so forth.
Robert was an athlete all his life, a long distance swimmer and went to Utah High School State Swim Meet. He played baseball as a pitcher and coached little league baseball for years. He was in triathlons and Iron Man races and competed in Pan-American Games, and tried to qualify for Summer Olympic Swimming Events, such as Butterfly 500 Meter.
Robert served as a Missionary in the Florida Tallahassee Mission during 1984 - 1986. He was a leader and trainer of other missionaries. He served as an Assistant to the Mission President.
Robert married Karen Elizabeth Sopher on June 22, 1988 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were later divorced.
He worked for various employers during his life, mainly Federal Service positions. As a lifeguard he saved numerous lives. He was a trainer for a Stephen Covey Seminar. He was a writer of poetry, fantasy, theology, among other genres. Every Christmas he self-published a compilation of his thoughts and writings in a book, which he mailed or hand delivered to family and friends.
Robert S. Dalton was a leader within the Boy Scouts of America. He received The Silver Beaver Award as an adult. He earned his Eagle Scout with Palms when he was 14 years old. He was a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow.
Robert was a volunteer for the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Olympics. Robert was a docent for the Utah Symphony with his mother, Kathie Dalton.
Robert acted, danced, sung, and performed in Clearfield City Community plays and musicals with his mother Kathie Dalton, sister, Sheila Brandley, and other family members.
Survived by his father, Donald Michael Dalton; siblings, Tony Dalton, Sheila Brandley, James Dalton, Richard Dalton; sons, Michael (Cassidy) Dalton, and Thomas Dalton; granddaughters, Gabriella, Trinity, Cassie; and grandson, Hayden.
Preceded in death by his son, Rodger Owen Dalton and mother, Kathie Lee Dalton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
